Lord Selkirk Education Centre Youth Program

Education Centre

The Lord Selkirk Education Centre is open to residents of the Lord Selkirk School Division only. We offer core area courses for students from grade 9 to 12 in a small group setting with an emphasis on self discipline and self determination. Our students are referred by both the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School and our outside partners. A list of our community partners is included on the website.

At LSEC, students may also earn the opportunity to participate in work and community experience courses, by attending on a regular basis and working hard. This gives students the opportunity to earn career and elective credits, such as child care and culinary arts courses, in addition to their core credits.

The program is flexible, with a continuous entry system that allows students to enter and start earning credits toward graduation as soon as possible. The program maintains close ties to the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School , which gives our students access to a wide variety of elective courses.

At LSEC students attend half days. This allows LSEC to offer services to more students. Students, who have been out of school for a while, feel more successful and have the opportunity to attend the Regional School on a half day basis.

On site, students have access to a school division social worker, an Addictions Foundation of Manitoba (AFM) worker and a Community Mental Health worker. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these services as often students who are struggling in school have underlying difficulties that prevent them from being successful.

Parents and students wanting information can contact LSEC directly. However, students and parents will need the support of the administration at the Lord Selkirk Regional School before being accepted to the centre.

Both student and Parent or Guardian must attend the intake meeting before a student is accepted to the program.
